On , Barclays ( BCS , commentary , Trade Now), creator of the iPath line of exchange traded notes, alerted investors that the closing indicative value of VXX fell below $25.00 on , 2010. The fine print of the ETN's prospectus states that "if the closing indicative value of the Notes is below $25.00 on any business day, Barclays Bank PLC has the right (but not the obligation) to initiate a 1 for 4 reverse split of the Notes." Barclays' press release stated that even though VXX's indicative value was below $25, the bank is not "currently planning" to initiate a reverse split.
