Morningstar Stock Analyst Notes - Aug 03, 2009Everest Re Group, Limited (RE)
-
MorningstarBermuda reinsurer Everest Re RE reported a sharp increase in second quarter earnings today, led by a rebound in its investment portfolio and low catastrophe losses. At the top line, gross written premium rose roughly 12%, after adjusting for foreign exchange effects. Property catastrophe reinsurance rates are up roughly 15% this year, but rates appear weaker on average elsewhere in the reinsurance world, and we think Everest's overall revenue increase was a good result given its diversified reinsurance portfolio.
