Huron Consulting Group Inc (NASDAQ: HURN), a leading provider of business consulting services, today announced that the Company's Board of Directors has elected John McCartney to the position of non executive chairman of the Board effective , 2010, the date of the Company's Annual Meeting of Stockholders and subject to his reelection to the Board at the meeting. McCartney has served as an independent director and the chairman of the Audit Committee since the Company's initial public offering. "John's deep knowledge of accounting and his prior experience as chief financial officer and chief operating officer of a public company enabled him, as chairman of our audit committee, to successfully guide Huron through the challenges of the past year and should enable him to continue to lead us through the resolution of the regulatory and legal proceedings facing Huron," said George E. In premarket trading Thursday, Huron shares rose $1.06, or 5.5 percent, to $20.49. Baird analyst Daniel Leben said "uncertainties remain." Leben said in a note to investors that he would wait to determine a more aggressive recommendation on the shares after seeing whether Huron's key managing directors remain with the company, and how much more Huron has to pay them to stay.

Huron shares rallied to $18.48 in Tuesday afternoon trading on the Nasdaq, partially reversing a loss of more than 70 percent suffered earlier this month when the company said its entire top management team would exit amid an accounting scandal . Despite a second quarter profit that topped Wall Street's view, and some investor relief that the earnings restatement is complete, analysts noted that Huron still faces risks to its reputation and operations . 'It doesn't necessary mean the future of the company has changed one way or the other,' said Joseph Foresi, an analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott .

Chicago based Huron, which rose in 2002 from the ashes of collapsed accounting giant Arthur Anderson, said late on Friday that its entire top management team would leave the company and that it would restate more than three years of results. The restatement means the company's earnings for that period would be slashed almost in half because it had misreported costs related to acquisitions. "As a professional services company with a relatively high amount of debt, it is not implausible to argue that this event causes the company to languish for an extended period of time or eventually unravel," said Timothy McHugh, an analyst at William Blair & Company, which owns 2.54 percent of Huron's shares according to Reuters Knowledge.
