Intel, Micron intro 25-nm NAND (EDN News Center) - Feb 01, 2010

For consumer electronics manufacturers, the device provides density in a single 2 bits per cell MLC (multi level cell) die that will fit an industry standard, TSOP (thin small outline package) Intel and Micron were quick to point out that they have doubled NAND density roughly every 18 months IMFT moved on a 50 nm process in summer 2006, followed by a 34 nm process in spring 2008, and now followed by today's winter 2010 25 nm process announcement Other leading NAND makers have recently announced memory processes ranging from 32 nm to 26 nm "At a die size of 167 mm sq a 300 mm fab should be able to manufacture just over 400 die per wafer," Jim Handy, an analyst with Objective Analysis, reported

Seagate jumps into crowded flash drive market (EE Times Europe) - Dec 08, 2009

It can deliver 240 MBytes/s data for a sequential read and 200 MB/s for a sequential write. Analysts are generally bullish on Seagate's late entrance into what is a highly competitive market. "The company will be a force to contend with once it reaches its stride," said Jim Handy of Objective Analysis (Los Gatos, Calif.) in a written analysis. "With its well established OEM and eco system relationships and a long history of serving global storage OEMs, Seagate is in a unique position to fortify its leading enterprise storage position with its entry into the enterprise solid state storage market," said Dave Reinsel, a group vice president at International Data Corp., speaking in a prepared statement from Seagate. Seagate will be able to ride the still growing market for flash drives in servers.
