No suprise this after the company's dismaying February warning : Palm's (PALM) earnings news today is grim, but far less grim than some had feared. Posting third quarter results after Thursday's closing bell, Palm reported a net loss of $18.5 million, or 13 cents a share on revenues of $349.9 million. That's nicely ahead of its recent guidance of $285 million to $310 million, but obviously well below the $424.7 million analysts had been expecting before the pre announcement.

But these days its sounding a bit more hopeful for a deal. During a Thursday news conference, China Mobile CEO, Wang Jianzhou said the carrier hopes to soon sell a version of the iPhone that supports its TDSCDMA (time division synchronous code division multiple access) network, as well as the iPad."We're

And Wednesday afternoon, Nasdaq gave it one , warning that the company's shares have fallen out of compliance with its minimum bid requirement of $1 and that Sirius (SIRI) is in danger of being kicked to the Pink Sheets. An ominous threat, but one not likely to be carried out.

The company's new Bing search engine saw its market share jump to 12.5 percent from 10.9 percent in January. Tha puts it within two percentage points of Yahoo (YHOO), whose share fell to 14.1 percent from 14.5 percent and, heh, within 52.7 percentage points of Google (GOOG), which also so a decline from January to February.

VirnetX Holding, a company Microsoft (MSFT) claims was established solely to sue it for millions , has succeeded in doing just that. A Texas court on Tuesday ordered Microsoft to pay $105.75 million to VirnetX for violating two patents related to secure virtual private network (VPN) technology — No. 6,502,135 and No. 7,188,180 . That's not the $242 million VirnetX sought when it first sued in 2007, but it's a substantial sum — and it could incease.

Originally, offered with a ship date of , official iPad Cases purchased today, for example, won't ship until mid April (if you purchased one on , you're still likely to take delivery on according to my order status checks). Keyboard Docks ordered today won't ship until late April (those ordered on the 12th are scheduled to arrive on ) and 10W USB power adapters, which let you charge your iPad via electrical outlet, won't ship until May — nearly a month after the iPad itself first arrives at market.

This morning, Intel (INTC) formally launched its new six core "Westmere EP" Xeon processors, and according to Intel, vendors like Dell (DELL) , IBM (IBM) and Hewlett Packard (HPQ) are already gobbling them up. Said Intel exec Boyd Davis : "We've already shipped hundreds of thousands of these (processors)." And for good reason.
