Why Your Cable Guy Might Drive an Electric Vehicle Before You Do (Triple Pundit) - Mar 09, 2010

Last week, I took an all electric version of Ford's Transit Connect out for a spin here in San Francisco. It wasn't all that exciting. I'm not the only one who thought so, either.

Ford announced today that an all electric version of its Transit Connect small cargo van will roll off production lines and into vehicle fleets later this year. The Transit Connect has been, so far, a hit for Ford, selling well in Europe, where it debuted before coming state side last year in a 20 liter, four cylinder gas powered engine that gets 19 miles to the gallon in the city and 24 mpg highway Will fleet owners embrace this EV version?

Panasonic Forecasts Zero-Emission Homes with Energy Storage Solution (Triple Pundit) - Jan 04, 2010

But when it said late last month that it hopes to start selling a lithium ion storage cell for home use around fiscal 2011, electronics giant Panasonic signaled that it could be filling that energy storage void Details about the battery are sketchy, at best Panasonic's president Fumio Otsubo told the Japanese newspaper The Yomiuri Shimbun about the planned product but didn't mention how large the energy storage system would be, or how much it would cost

Ford, Partners, to Focus on the “E” in EVs (Triple Pundit) - Nov 04, 2009

Last month I attended a forum presented by Ford in which it previewed its upcoming electric vehicles—the battery electric (BEV) Transit Connect (a utility van) due in 2010, followed by BEV Focus sedan in 2011 and plug in hybrid (PHEV) in 2012. Nancy Gioia, Ford's director of global electrification, also provided an overview of the tooling and manufacturing systems that Ford has put into place in order to hit its production targets for EVs while also maximizing its current manufacturing models—i.e creating production lines that can be used for building vehicles with electric, hybrid or fuel based engines.

Giant IT companies with giant energy needs—Microsoft and Google are great examples—have been looking for low cost, low polluting ways of powering their massive server farms for years. In fact, both firms built server farms along the Columbia River in Washington and Oregon in order to take advantage of some of the cheapest hydro power in the country. Could they now be looking to the wind to help power their European operations?

Ebay, Others, Offer Strategies for Turning Customers into Allies (Triple Pundit) - Oct 21, 2009

For eBay , the task of fostering advocacy among its customers is a relatively easy task. After all, eBay buyers and sellers deal in reused, salvaged goods, so they are by nature "recyclers." To emphasize this, and to provide a range of ideas on ways that eBay users can build on their existing green cred, eBay's Green Team offers tips and tricks and news through Green Team site, explained Cole.

Nestle Gives Up Fight to Secure McCloud Water Bottling Plant (Triple Pundit) - Sep 17, 2009

But activists in the Northern California town of McCloud are claiming victory in a six year battle to block Nestle Waters North America from erecting a water bottling plant at the site of an old mill in the once prosperous logging town. Nestle announced on that it is bagging the proposal. When first introduced, Nestle's proposal was for a 1 million square foot facility that would bottle a mind boggling 521 million gallons of water a year, pulling it from the town's watershed and then trucking it as far south of Los Angeles.

Starbucks Isn’t Alone: Local-washing Is the New Black (Triple Pundit) - Sep 11, 2009

Our post last week about 15th Ave Coffee & Tea —a coffee house that Starbucks opened this summer in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood but chose not to brand with its trademark sea creature logo—elicited a whole bunch of response from readers. Some of the readers stated that Starbucks is just plain evil. Others complained that it's lame to hate on chains just because they are chains.
