Product Revenue Near for Vanda
Morningstar Stock Analyst Notes -
12:21 ET Mar 19, 2010
Novartis AG
(NOVN) -
Morningstar
Although Vanda Pharmaceuticals VNDA and partner Novartis
NVS
recently launched their antipsychotic Fanapt in the United States, we're keeping our fair value estimate intact until we begin to see meaningful sales data and can better estimate the drug's commercial performance. Furthermore, with royalty rates yet to be disclosed, there remains much uncertainty around how sales will translate to Vanda's top line. The firm is working toward approval in other countries as well, and we expect Vanda to strike a similar deal with Novartis for commercialization rights outside North America following Fanapt's marketing approval abroad.

has handed back U.S. rights to a drug that might have become a copycat version of the GSK blockbuster Advair. That move gives Glaxo one less problem to worry about. . GSK chief Andrew Witty has been pooh poohing the potential of generic rivals to that best selling lung drug, which accounted for $7.6 billion in 2009 sales.
