Analysts hail Guess quarterly results... (Reuters) - Aug 27, 2009

Standard and Poor's Equity Research, which raised the company to "buy" from "hold," sees above average growth for the brand through 2012. "We believe Guess remains one of the most appealing longer term business models..with even further margin and top line drivers when the consumer returns," said Brean Murray Carret's Eric Beder, who raised his price target on the stock to $39 from $33. Wedbush Morgan analyst Betty Chen expects strengthening business momentum in North America retail, expansion in Europe and increased penetration in Asia, coupled with solid expense and inventory control, to help Guess deliver earnings above consensus. Receding currency headwinds and easier comparable sales and margin comparisons ahead suggest that the company "could be setting up nicely for more big earnings beats in the second half of 2009," Credit Suisse analyst Omar Saad said. On Wednesday, Guess, best known for its denims, forecast third quarter earnings between 46 and 49 cents per share, on revenue between $465 million and $485 million (Editing by Anne Pallivathuckal)

Nike shares rise on upbeat outlook for 4Q results (CNBC) - Jun 18, 2009

Further, he notes a 5 percent cut in the work force that will result in annual savings of about $200 million. "We think there is still more that can be taken out of the business, and additional cost savings represent a large potential opportunity for Nike," he wrote. Samuels said the firm kept its "Perform" rating on the stock, especially since the company's gross margins face pressure from higher inventory levels and commodity costs next year. Credit Suisse analyst Omar Saad said investors are now more comfortable with the emerging market outlook, weakening U.S dollar and better visibility for Nike's cost opportunity. Saad noted that Nike's market share position means it has "an unprecedented number of levers to drive profitability regardless of demand." .

Liz Claiborne Feels Constraint As It Tries To Energize Lines (CNNMoney.com) - Dec 10, 2008

Being a vendor or a retailer is tough enough right now, but when you are both, problems are compounded, analysts say. With industry executives reporting fourth-quarter order cancellations and big markdowns of inventory that is delivered, it is likely that Liz Claiborne will remain pressured in coming months despite progress at improving the core Liz line and reducing inventories and costs, said Citigroup analyst Kate McShane . Liz Claiborne is trying to obtain a new bank line to replace a $750 million credit facility that expires at the end of October 2009 . , and Wall Street is closely watching. Credit Suisse retail analyst Omar Saad predicts Liz Claiborne won't be able to get more than $500 million through a secured line that will carry a substantially higher rate than the current facility.

Analyst cuts target on retailer Liz Claiborne (CNNMoney.com) - Oct 27, 2008

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Shares of Liz Claiborne Inc slipped on Monday, as an analyst trimmed his price target on the apparel maker and said fourth-quarter results may come in worse than expected as consumer spending remains soft. On Friday, Liz Claiborne lowered its profit outlook for the fourth quarter and full-year below Wall Street expectations and warned that consumer spending is softening. The company also said it expects third-quarter earnings between 37 cents and 42 cents, compared with the 38 per share estimate expected by analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. Credit Suisse analyst Omar Saad said the company's disclosure of certain cash flow and balance sheet metrics should "help calm investor fears that it will violate debt covenants, which would make funding its operations more costly and potentially even lead to bankruptcy." .
