Buffalo Wild Wings keeps 2010 outlook (Reuters) - Mar 08, 2010

Separately, analysts including MKM Partners' Stephen Anderson expect the company to get a boost in 2010 from the recent drop in chicken wing prices. The fall in wing prices was marked in jumbo wings, which are the variety Buffalo Wild Wings uses, than for smaller sized wings, Baird analyst David Tarantino said. "With all in spot prices for wings down 17 percent since guidance was provided, we have a much higher level of conviction in BWLD's ability to meet or beat the 20 percent target, even if comps fall shy," Tarantino, said in a note to clients. Tarantino reiterated his "outperform" rating on the stock

Restaurant earnings: Beyond the numbers (Nation's Restaurant News - Financial News) - Feb 18, 2010

Denny's: The family dining company was able to post better than expected results on cost cutting, gains from the sale of corporate restaurants and debt retirement Still, a top line catalyst is needed, said Stephen Anderson, senior analyst at MKM Partners "The company appears to be hanging its hopes on a ‘Right on the Menu' value promotion now in test markets, but we do not see this as a catalyst, and we think promotions like this one could position [Denny's] for a potential margin squeeze in future quarters," Anderson saidThe Right on the Menu offer is a value priced selection of 15 different items priced at $2, $4, $6 and $8

Achain reaction (The Buffalo News - Finance, Investments, Insurance) - Jan 23, 2010

Once it's gone, analysts fear customers will flock to the next big chain offering better deals And that speaks to Brinker's core problem: There's little differentiation between Chili's and its main competitors such as T G I Friday's and Applebee's Each restaurant offers some of the same menu items –quesadillas, burgers and ribs –in a similar atmosphere "Put a blindfold on, and I would be hard pressed to find a customer who could tell a difference," says Stephen Anderson, analyst with MKM Partners

Panera ‘Shaich’-up shocks analysts, but response to news mostly positive (Nation's Restaurant News - Financial News) - Nov 30, 2009

Stephen Anderson, senior analyst with MKM Partners, said he was "not concerned about the shift at the top," but that he believed the buy back would have a more immediate effect on share price. "We think Panera will be able to buy back shares with ample cash left on the balance shift," he said. Changes in Panera's executive suite come as the company continues to outperform most other restaurant chains.

Bob Evans’ bid to boost traffic begins with appetizing starters (Nation's Restaurant News - Financial News) - Jun 15, 2009

At the same time, the chain debuted a value driven menu of 30 "Real Meals" for $5.99 for the summer. Observers were optimistic that the new line of starters would contribute beneficially to Bob Evans' numbers. "We think the introduction of appetizers has the potential to add incrementally to both comps and margins," analyst Stephen Anderson at MKM Partners in Greenwich, Conn., said in a report. "Based on the strong reception to the new appetizers we saw in our recent Midwest checks, we think this potentially may be a permanent menu addition providing sustained high margins."

Analyst note lifts California Pizza Kitchen shares (Forbes) - Jun 10, 2009

Shares of California Pizza Kitchen rose about 4 percent in Wednesday afternoon trading after an MKM Partners analyst hiked his rating for the casual dining chain to "Buy" from "Neutral," suggesting that the company's restaurants could see improved sales in the remainder of the year. MKM analyst Stephen Anderson upgraded his rating, noting increased customer traffic, additional cost cutting and a potential rebound at the company's franchise locations in airports and Asian markets. He also wrote that the wait times for tables at restaurants around the country appear to be up, based on anecdotal research, and that consumers may now be willing to "trade up" from fast food chains to casual dining chains including California Kitchen when dining out. The upbeat note sent stocks up 57 cents, or 4.2 percent, to $14.02 in morning trading.

Video & vittles (dispatch.com: Business) - Mar 20, 2009

The tech heavy redesign of the restaurant is a "step in the right direction," said Stephen Anderson, a restaurant industry analyst with MKM Partners in Connecticut. The move makes even more sense for the chain, he said, given that Bob Evans has said it will scale back expansion plans amid the recession and reported a loss of $51.4 million last quarter. Reinventing existing restaurants brings a higher rate of return than building new ones, Anderson said. "People are used to seeing TVs (in casual restaurants), and Wi Fi is now the price of admission for any restaurant these days to attract anyone under the age of 30," he said. "It's part of their ongoing effort to attract younger customers, with the addition of products that younger consumers like, such as the new iced coffees and BOBurrito."
