Tekelec, Ciena shares rise on Cramer's M&A comments (Forbes) - Oct 14, 2009

But analysts are viewing Cramer's statements with caution. 'Tekelec has a lot of legacy equipment, like signalling, but most of the acquisitions are going into market share in the next generation networks, like Starent,' Avian Securities analyst Catharine Trebnick told Reuters.

'I don't think Tekelec is an acquisition target.' Ciena is also not a likely takeover target, Trebnick said, but agreed with Cramer saying Juniper might need to look out for a strategic acquisition after Cisco's deal with Starent. C.L. King & Associates analyst Lawrence Harris said Tekelec has a leading market share in the U.S network signalling market.

'Mad Money' Spotlight: Cramer Likes Tekelec (TheStreet.com) - Oct 09, 2009

If you believe that text messaging and the infrastructure needed to support the likes of Apple's ( AAPL Quote ) iPhone will continue to grow, the stock of a small telecom equipment maker called Tekelec ( TKLC Quote ) presents a good buying opportunity, according to Jim Cramer. "Tekelec rocks," Cramer said during his "Mad Money" broadcast on CNBC Thursday evening. The company, based in Morrisville, N.C., near the Raleigh Durham Research Triangle, makes the equipment necessary to transmit text messages and, perhaps even more lucratively, allow users to keep their phone numbers when switching carriers, a technology that's called local number portability. Tekelec holds a 35% share of the local number portability market.

Tekelec's profit rises, but investor nerves hurt its stock (News & Observer) - Aug 06, 2009

The company said full year revenue will be at least $450 million, up from at least $440 million, and as much as $460 million. More than half of Tekelec's sales are abroad, where phone networks are being developed at a faster rate than in this country, and demand for telecom equipment remains strong. "We operate in the core of the networks," said Bill Everett, Tekelec's chief financial officer. "Capital spending is less discretionary there than in other parts of the network." One risk is that new business in India and other developing nations could bring Tekelec smaller profits, Robert W. Baird & Co analyst Kenneth Muth wrote in a research note Wednesday.

Service Broker competitors unite in forum (Telecom News and Analysis) - May 21, 2009

The five vendors founding the Service Broker Forum aren't the only ones creating service brokers, said Yankee Group analyst Brian Partridge. Tekelec, Telcordia and Alcatel Lucent all have some form of the technology in their product portfolio. Nor do the five Service Broker Forum vendors approach the technology in exactly the same way, but they do believe the industry should be moving forward in service broker deployment to tie together their legacy intelligent network systems with new application servers in the IP and Web services world. "I can't think of a situation where competitors have sort of pooled marketing resources as such," said Partridge, who is credited by the five vendors with encouraging creation of the SBF. "In this case, what I applauded them for was that they set their competitive agendas aside to raise the level of the lake, so to speak, to build awareness of the concept of the service broker and make people aware this technology is available in the market today and can support viable services that can use assets on both the [intelligent network (IN)] and IMS sides of the house."

Cramer's Third Speculative Tech: Cadence Design (Inside Futures) - May 07, 2009

This week, CNBC's Jim Cramer is riding the bullish wave in the market by trying to highlight some lesser known technology names that he thinks still have room to run. His first two picks Tekelec ( TKLC ) and Brocade Communication Systems ( BRCD ) have both benefited from the bounce that always seems to follow a smaller stock when Jim Cramer spends any significant amount of time focused on them on Mad Money. The same was true in after hours trading for Cadence Design Systems ( CDNS ) which shot up as much as 15% in after hours trading after Cramer detailed this company, but the stock has retraced to only trading up about 5% in morning trading.
