Pros and Cons of GE-Comcast Deal (The Glick Report) - Dec 03, 2009

It is now official: Comcast agreed to buy a majority stake in NBC Universal from General Electric valuing NBCU at more than $30 billion. The inner workings of the deal are fairly complicated, so I chose to focus on the pluses and minuses for both Comcast and General Electric with Robert Maltbie, managing director of Singular Research. Here are some of his comments: "It's a good deal for a Comcast and a necessary deal for GE. GE needs to delever or die.

Gettelfinger Discusses UAW's Rejection of Ford Contract (The Glick Report) - Nov 03, 2009

Gettelfinger Discusses UAW's Rejection of Ford Contract This morning in a First on Fox Business I spoke to Ron Gettelfinger ,the UAW (United Auto Workers) president, about the UAW's vote against a deal with Ford. As you may recall on October 14th in a blog entitled, "Gettelfinger on Details of the UAW's Contract with Ford," I called the deal "lousy" for Ford UAW workers. Gettelfinger understandingly took some offense to that notion, saying, "I don't know exactly where you're coming from on that, Alexis.

Exclusive: NJ Jets Owner on Deal With Russian Billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov (The Glick Report) - Sep 24, 2009

By Alexis Glick Yesterday, it was announced that the richest man in Russia, billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, purchased an 80% stake in the NBA's New Jersey Nets and a 45% stake in the new arena, making Bruce Ratner a minority stakeholder in the team. This morning, I sat down for an exclusive interview with Bruce Ratner, Chairman & CEO of Forest City Ratner Companies and owner of the New Jersey Nets to talk about the deal and how it came to be. On his deal with the Russian billionaire, Ratner said "Mikhail Prokhorov wants to really create a business relationship both in sports, real estate and entertainment and really bring Russia and the United States closer in so many kinds of ways and sports is a major way to do that."

Exclusive: Gettlefinger on Auto Sales, Recovery & Health Care (The Glick Report) - Sep 02, 2009

Ron addressed a number of big issues, including the impact of Cash for Clunkers on August auto sales, the closing of Toyota's plant in California, the UAW's negotiations with Ford (the only member of the Big Three to refuse a government bailout) and the health care reform debate. Ron's answers were insightful, as always. Regarding auto sales, he said that September sales will "probably come in a little lower than what we would hope", but said the industry will gradually start to pick up next year.

Last year when Lehman Brothers collapsed Barclays took over Lehman's U.S operations for approximately $1.4 billion. Some called it a steal.
