Mobclix and Nielsen Ink Mobile Ad Targeting Data Deal (GigaOM) - 10:25 ET Feb 08, 2010

Mobclix has struck a deal to integrate Nielsen's ad targeting data into its mobile ad exchange, the two announced today, the latest effort to deliver highly targeted mobile ads. The pact allows Mobclix to resell Nielsen's PRIZM and ConneXions products, which slot consumers into more than 150 segments based on lifestyle and usage patterns Marketers will be able to target pitches based on a user's age and gender as well as location, spending power and tech savviness — features that will give advertisers more confidence in a market where hard data is difficult to access

Get Ready For More Commercials On Web Videos (The Business Insider) - Feb 08, 2010

Starting this fall, Nielsen intends to start making available data that take into account viewing of commercials that run in a particular show, no matter whether they are seen online or on TV The data will be made available for evaluation starting this September and are intended to become the basis for ad negotiations in But here's the catch: For Nielsen to be able to provide the commercial rating, shows seen online will have to have the same group of commercials that run on TV

Nielsen Sells Some Trade Journals and Closes One (New York Times - DealBook) - Dec 10, 2009

The Nielsen Company said Thursday that it was selling some of its most prominent trade journals — including The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard — and was shutting down Editor & Publisher, which has chronicled the newspaper business for more than 100 years. Nielsen is selling eight titles to e5 Global Media, a new company formed by the private equity firm Pluribus Capital Management and Guggenheim Partners, a financial services company. James Finkelstein, one of Pluribus's three founders, will serve as e5's chairman.

Editor & Publisher to Shut Down as Nielsen Unloads Magazines (Mashable) - Dec 10, 2009

Media giant Nielsen Co. is selling eight of its Business Media properties to e5 Global Media Holdings, a new joint venture between Pluribus Capital Management and Guggenheim Partners. The deal should close by year's end. . Adweek, one of the brands being sold off, reports that Nielsen has reached an agreement with the new media company to sell off the Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Backstage, Mediaweek, Brandweek, The Clio Awards and Film Journal International.

Size matters: Nielsen winds down Israeli R&D operations to focus on India C alcalist reports that Nielsen is laying off 60 employees at its Herzliya located R&D center in a push to consolidate offshore development activities in India. The R&D center, which was established following Nielsen's acquisition of BuzzMetrics in 2007, contributed to the development efforts of Nielsen Online , the set of online measurement services that enable clients to "understand, measure and respond to online consumers". Nielsen's near departure from Israel is a troubling development if is taken as a sign of things to come.

New Nielsen Data Will Shock Some Web Publishers (Business Insider) - Dec 07, 2009

That's the new world publishers are facing as a result of changes the Nielsen Co is making to its @Plan service, one of the most oft used systems agencies use to slice and dice online audiences by age, demographics and psychographics. and target them with some of the online world's $7.6 billion in U.S advertising dollars, a figure that excludes search. In October, Nielsen told clients that it was going to change its methodology for @Plan, including more than tripling the number of sites included in the data, and shifting from a questionnaire to electronic meters to determine who had visited which sites.

Nielsen Provides $2.5 Million Additional Funding To 'Research Think Tank' (PaidContent) - Oct 23, 2009

The Nielsen Company has been moving rapidly to counter the challenges to its ratings dominance lately and the latest step involves adding $2.5 million in funding to to the Council for Research Excellence. The CRE was formed about four years ago as a "research think tank" and forum for 35 of Nielsen's clients. With this latest funding, Nielsen has provided a total of $10 million in backing to the CRE, which now has 40 members, who represent advertisers, agencies, TV networks and syndicators.

The Nielsen Company issued a report today on the top U.S. web brands and Internet usage in the U.S. As expected, Google is the #1 web brand based on unique audience. . The statistic that really jumped out for us, however, was that in , the average U.S. Internet user spent an estimated 68 hours online (both at home and at work). . Although that still trails television usage by a significant margin, it's clear that the Internet is carving out a greater and greater role in our lives each month.

Massive Growth of Ad Spending Over Social Networks (BNET - Media) - Sep 30, 2009

Social networking, blogging, Twitter, Facebook — all still inspire negative reactions from some execs inside the traditional media industry, but a report released by Nielsen found that over the past year, the social media world has expanded its footprint substantially among the U.S. Internet population. As of August, according to the Nielsen study released last week, social networks and blogs accounted for 17 percent of all time spent on the Internet, which is close to triple the percentage just one year earlier. Advertisers have taken notice.
