You'll be far better off in a future without enterprise software (Dana Gardner's BriefingDirect) - Nov 03, 2009

but instead to building, composing, and reusing what you need iteratively to respond to continuous change. . As if to prove a point, SAP stock recently slid almost 10% on missed earnings. Some may blame the overall state of the economy, but we point to the writing on the wall: All the enterprise software that could be sold has been sold, and the reasons for buying or implementing new licenses are few and far between. Invest in enterprise architecture over enterprise software, services over customizations, and clouds over costly and unpredictable infrastructure. and you'll be better off. This guest post comes courtesy of Ronald Schmelzer, senior analyst at ZapThink.SPECIAL PARTNER OFFER .

'SOA is Dead' debate lives on and on (Service-Oriented Architecture) - May 08, 2009

Anne's blockbuster statement was also a part of a panel discussion I had the opportunity to moderate at the just concluded Software AG's SOA Summit 2009 in Phoenix. The panelists - which included Jason Bloomberg of ZapThink, Bjorn Brauel of Software AG, Susan Cramm of Value Dance, Kevin Flowers of Coca Cola, Miko Matsumura of Software AG, and John Rymer of Forrester - engaged in a rousing discussion of what the next phase is for SOA, and how to sell the concept to management and the organization. In his presentation kicking off the summit, John Rymer said that Forrester's surveys show plenty of strength in SOA adoption plans - for example, 27% of the largest enterprises currently have SOA in place, and 33% are committed to moving in this direction. SOA principles themselves did not die, but rather, "SOA died a marketing death," meaning that the approach has become so vital and basic to enterprises and as a part of packaged applications that marketers have moved onto the next big thing. "When a technology becomes vital, it dies in a marketing sense," he explained.

TechStars "Entrepreneurship Boot Camp" Comes to Boston: An Interview with Co-founder David Cohen (Xconomy Venture Capital Feed) - Feb 17, 2009

Shawn Broderick, the founder of Waltham, MA-based reputation broker TrustPlus (which I profiled last April ), has been named to direct the TechStars Boston session, which will run from May 26 to August 21. As Boston-based mentors, TechStars has signed up a who's who of local entrepreneurs and investors, including Colin Angle, co-founder and CEO of iRobot; Don Dodge, director of business development for Microsoft's Emerging Business Team; Eran Egozy, co-founder and CTO of Harmonix Music Systems; Chris Heidelberger, CEO of Nexaweb; Will Herman, founder of Viewlogic; Nabeel Hyatt, founder of Conduit Labs and former COO of Ambient Devices; Warren Katz, founder and CEO of VT MÄK; John Landry, managing director of Lead Dog Ventures; Rich Levandov, general partner at Avalon Ventures and Masthead Ventures; Bijan Sabet, general partner at Spark Capital; Ronald Schmelzer, founder and senior analyst at ZapThink; and Bill Warner, founder of Avid Technology. According to Cohen, TechStar's executive director, it was Warner who provided both the inspiration and the funding behind the cloning of the Boulder program in Boston. Cohen says TechStars has been in talks with Warner about expanding to Boston since last October-it was "the next logical step" after the program's success in Boulder, given the Boston area's wealth of entrepreneurial activity and high-profile universities, Cohen says. But the plans were laid well before Graham announced Y Combinator's departure, so it's just coincidence that TechStars will be helping to fill that vacuum.

BizTalk Server 2009 To Arrive Before July (Redmond Channel Partner Online| News) - Sep 07, 2008

Users of the current BizTalk Server 2006 R2 version will be able to use Oslo "to leverage and compose your services into new composite applications," Sharp said. Sharp emphasized the integration of BizTalk Server with the overall Microsoft stack. In particular, BizTalk Server 2009 will take advantage the company's big product wave launch, including .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008. BizTalk also works with Microsoft's Windows Communication Foundation, a SOA programming model that Sharp helped to develop. Long-time SOA observer Jason Bloomberg, who is managing partner of the ZapThink consultancy, noted that the latest BizTalk Server will enable Web Services integration with better UDDI support.

IBM rules SOA/BPM with ILOG buy - analysts - SearchSOA - Jul 29, 2008

"The ILOG acquisition goes a long way in rounding out IBM's 'BPM enabled by SOA' vision," said Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst at ZapThink LLC. "Business rules were the missing piece and ILOG fills the gap nicely. Products from the two vendors were already working together in many clients, so this acquisition makes sense both for customers as well as for the vendors involved." .
